FRUITS OF HAND AND HEART- Proverbs 31:10-31:Titus 2:3-5

Love Rest in God

November 30, 2022 Comments : 2

I take much comfort in watching snow melt from trees. Such as what I do at this moment. This morning shared such coldness—eight degrees in my parts. And the snow accompanied its shivers. It was a morning, which started with a little problem in the basement. And yet with all the localized chaos I still saw the snow falling as if to quiet my soul in midst of an inconvenient cleanup. I prevailed!

The last time I reflected on daily life, I made mention that I would continue this path I started. However, I may begin December with a summary to end this discussion, while simultaneously start a different conversation. You see, despite the snowy ground and the quietness of this morning, I must still run errands in a nearby town and pay attention to a few projects. I am not quite sure what happened to the delicate hours of this morning, but they are gone now. I don’t grieve the loss of them, I just know that I must make the most of what God has given me on this day, while serving Him at every chance I am provided.

Charles Spurgeon noted:

“The Holy Spirit, who anoints us for all holy service, is indispensable to us if we would serve the Lord acceptably.”

To make service to our Lord, a commonplace of gentle steps as we move our lives to know Him more. So, to end this month of November, I share below, a beautiful Puritan prayer. I have recorded this prayer as well. The recording comes right after this prayer.

Love Rest in God

MY DEAR LORD,

I depend wholly upon thee,

wean me from all other dependencies.

Thou are my all, thou dost overrule all and delight me.

Thou art the foundation of goodness,

how can I distrust thee?

how be anxious about what happens to me?

In the light of thy preciousness

the world and all of its enjoyments are infinitely poor:

I value the favour of men no more than pebbles.

Amid the blessings I receive from thee

may I never lose the heart of a stranger.

May I love thee, my benefactor, in all my benefits,

not forgetting that my greatest danger

arises from my advantages.

Produce in me self-despair that will make Jesus precious to me,

delightful in all his offices,

pleasurable in all his ways,

and may I love his commands as well as his promises.

Help me to discern between true and false love,

the one consisting of supreme love to thee, the other not,

the former uniting thy glory and man’s happiness,

that they may become one common interest,

the latter disjointing and separating them both,

seeking the latter with neglect to the former.

Teach me that genuine love is different in kind.

from that wrought of by rational arguments

or the motive of self-interest,

that such love is a pleasing passion affording

joy to the mind where it is.

Grant me grace to distinguish between the genuine and the false, and to rest in thee who are love.

Amen

Recording

I’ll be back here next week!

With love,

Char
